Breaking Free From Bondage

Have you ever been in bondage? Perhaps, you feel like you’re in bondage right now. I’m not talking about the kind of physical bondage of being put inside of a prison cell and being kept from leaving the cell. The kind of bondage I’m talking about is the bondage to sinful thoughts and habits that keep you from serving the Lord whole-heartedly. When we are in bondage the only way out is to be set free. Thankfully, Christ came to set us free!
The Bible says in Galatians 5:1 KJV, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” To stand fast means to maintain one’s position firmly. Are you maintaining your liberty firmly? Liberty, in the religious (spiritual) sense, means,”having the free right of adopting and enjoying opinions on religious subjects , and of worshiping the Supremem Being according to the dictates of conscience, without external control.” Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary online.
Are you in bondage to the dictates of the external? Are you in bondage to the dictates of the world? Are you ensnared by the traps of the devil? Stand fast, my friends! You have been set at liberty to serve Christ-not the flesh, the world, or the devil. The Bible says in Galatians 5:13 KJV, “For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Galatians 5:14 KJV.
The way out of bondage is to look into the perfect law of liberty. Look at what the Bible has to say in James 1:25 KJV, “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deeds.”
Are you a doer of God’s Word or a hearer only? Do you say one thing and do another? Herein, lies the key to your freedom: “But be ye doers of the word, as not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.” James 1:22-24 KJV.
