Ingesting Truth
Are you feeling weak spiritually? Could it be that you have not been filling up on God’s nourishing Word? Just as we need to eat nourishing food daily to stay physically healthy, we need to eat the Word of God in order to stay spiritually healthy. The Bible says, “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.” Jeremiah 15:16 KJV.
The trials of life will come, no doubt, so let us be strong in the Lord and the power of his might. (See Ephesians 6:10-18 KJV)
Here are three vital things we must do to build up our spiritual immunity:
- Eat a balanced diet. Read both the Old Testament and the New Testament. A wise man once told me the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. How true! The Old Testament was written for our admonition. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:11 “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” There is much to learn from the Old Testament, so don’t neglect it..
- Believe the Word of God as absolute truth. Jesus Christ said, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17 KJV. It is not enough to merely read the Bible, we must believe it by faith and allow it to sanctify us. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 KJV. Faith is to believe what we can’t see or understand. It is a child-like trust in God, fully believing that what He said is absolute truth.
- Put the truth into action. We may think we believe God’s Word and have faith in God. Yet, what do we do when the going gets tough or when a loved one gets sick? What do we do when our finances are in the hole? Do we trust God or do we doubt him? Do we blame God or do we believe Romans 8:28 KJV? Do we speak the truth to ourselves and wait for God to work our situation out according to his divine plan? Do we accept the truth whether or not things turn out the way we hoped they would believing Romans 8:28 KJV, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Ingesting truth- God’s Word- will sustain you in times of trial and testing. Are you eating a healthy spiritual diet? If not, start today!
