Strong in Faith by Studying the Bible
Do you desire to grow in faith? How does one grow in faith? The Bible gives us the answer in Romans 10:17 KJV, ” So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
The word hearing in this context of scripture refers to listening to the preaching of the Word of God, whereby sinners are converted to Christ because the spiritual light of the glorious gospel penetrates into their darkened hearts, according to Romans 10:13-17 KJV and 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 KJV. However, it also refers to those who give their heartfelt attention to God’s Word because when we, as believers, read and study the Bible, our ability to trust in the Lord grows.
How does this happen? Is this just some sort of psychological conditioning made by positive thinking? No, rather, this is a spiritual work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of every believer who spends time studying the Bible.
The Bible is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Tim. 3:16 KJV; it is inspired by God. It is both a sacred and supernatural book because the Holy Spirit, who is the Divine Author of its grammar, propositions, logical relationships, literary style, and intention is actively working through it.
Those in the world are skeptical about the supernatural origin and nature of the Bible and they don’t experience its supernatural truth because the Holy Spirit is not in their hearts, according to 1 Cor. 2:12-14 KJV. Yet, to born-again Christians, the Bible is a holy and living book and through it, we hear the voice of God.
Every time we meditate upon God’s words, our faith is energized because the Holy Spirit speaks into our whole being. Through the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit strengthens our affections (heart) for holy things, according to Eph. 3:14-17 KJV. When our affections are strengthened, then our attention (minds) receive determination to focus on spiritual reality. The Bible says in Col. 3:1-2 KJV, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Where is your attention? Is your heart and mind energized by the Holy Spirit? Are you evangelistically strong and healthy? Are you living out the measure of faith that Christ has given you?
