THINKING TRUE THOUGHTS ON PURPOSE
Right now, stop, and think about what you are thinking about. Is it true?
Have you considered just how crucial our thoughts are to having a right relationship with Christ and others? Isn’t it easy to just let our thoughts wander from this thing or that throughout the day and waste time on empty and vain thoughts?
How many times have we believed a lie that we heard someone utter about another or that we read on social media? Isn’t it tempting to think of all the bad things going on in the world and all the ways people around us are not living right or doing right? Isn’t it so natural to think self-serving thoughts or thoughts of self-loathing or self-pity?
If you’re anything like me, you answered, “Yes!” to all of the above. So, how do we change our thinking to true thoughts? I’d like to offer you three simple steps that have helped me over the years
1. Pay attention to your thoughts and question them.
2. Ask, “Is this thought true?” , “How can you know this thought is true?” Hint: If it doesn’t line up with Scripture, it is NOT true.
3. Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and renew your mind. Ephesians 5:26
Let us be vigilant in our thought life and pay close attention to what we’re thinking to ensure our thoughts are true. The Bible says in 3 John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear my children walk in truth.”
Will you choose to walk in truth today?
