RESTING OR RESTLESS
Are you getting plenty of rest? Do you feel tired, drained, or exhausted? Do you feel as if the well has run dry?
Perhaps it’s because you are looking in all the wrong places to find rest. Jesus Christ said, “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:30
Have you left your first love? Have you failed to put Jesus Christ first? Are you overly consumed with your own thoughts about what you want, what you don’t want, what you have, what you don’t have, what others think of you, what you imagine life should be like, what…..you get the point.
I believe A.W. Tozer was correct when he wrote the following words in his book, THE PURSUIT OF GOD: “Unceasing restlessness is the result of the self-life: to be specific, the self sins are these: self-righteousness, self-pity, self-confidence, self-sufficiency, self-admiration, self-love, self-promotion, egotism, and exhibitionism.”
Do we not live in the day and time where these self-sins are actually promoted, not only out there in the world, but right inside church buildings all across America? The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 11:3, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtility, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
The simplicity is in Christ not in us. Find rest in Him today.
How?
By turning to Him.
Did you have rest the day you were saved, the day you received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour? Do you remember a time when HE consumed your thoughts?
May I encourage you, dear Christian, to steer your thoughts back to the day you received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour? As the songwriter Helen Lemmel wrote, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus! Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”
Only in the person of Jesus Christ is true rest found.
